How to develop your mental toughness…

Is mental toughness a necessary part of a winning mindset? And do you just have it or you don’t?

The truth is that anyone trying to do anything great has tough times. Anyone.  How you react to them develops your mental toughness.

Mental toughness is the intentional and practiced intellectual and emotional decision to follow through on your intentions regardless of the distractions. It’s a DECISION! A decision to withstand putt-offs, putdowns, and postponements and move forward anyway. To resist outside pressure and focus on your inside direction.

To ignore and discount ignorant and ill-informed comments by considering the source and staying on track. To not take offense from anyone you wouldn’t take advice.

To know that like golf, life is a game where every shot is a new start and not letting your last shot define you. To bounce back better from tough experiences. To lead the weak not follow their lead when they try to weaken you.

Above all, it’s deciding to stay calm and not burning vital mental, emotional, and physical energy becoming desperate and retaliating. It’s remembering that everyone gets theirs - without your help.

The key is to reject the all too natural inclination to retaliate, replay the event, and be part of the very nastiness that got you there in the first case.

Life almost never goes as planned and the mentally tough make plans for life to work for them, not let it work against them. Mental toughness then, is a springboard to winning because understanding and resisting negative distractions intensifies focus longer and ultimately explodes your results.
