Our comfort zone is that familiar range of behavior where we never have to stretch, never feel any discomfort, never put ourselves out, never get into trouble, never have to get out of trouble, never work too hard, never work too late, never try anything new, never meet anyone new, and never learn anything new either. Comfort zones are cozy, safe, and happy places.
They are also places where nothing great ever happens either. It’s only when we are pushed, pressed, or prodded that we force ourselves to change for the better, both personally and professionally. We simply don’t change unless we must.
Stepping out of our comfort zone into the unfamiliar, unknown, unfriendly, and even unfathomable is the only way we can discover our full potential. Working outside our comfort zone is scary of course, but it’s also energizing. The trap tests our courage and commitment to being our best.
We escape the trap by putting ourselves in positions, places, and with people we have never experienced to discover success we haven’t either. So have courage. Step out more often. Get stronger. And see what you can really do.
